What It’s Like Being a Beaver
Beavers are our youngest members, aging from 6 to 8 years old.
I’m a Beaver at one of the many exciting Beaver colonies across Nottinghamshire. We meet weekly and play a variety of games whilst also doing outdoor and creative activities. Last year we went on a one night Beaver sleepover which was great!
What It’s Like Being a Cub
Cubs range from 8 to 10½ years old.
I thought Beavers was great but Cubs is so much better! We do far more outdoor activities, I have especially enjoyed having a go at the new watersports centre where I tried rafting and sailing. On our weekly meetings we do a mixture of craft, skills, international and teamwork challenges – all working towards badges, I’m trying to fill my arm!
What It’s Like Being a Scout
Scouts is the section for all those aged 10½ to 14 years old.
I’m part of a really active Scout troop, although we regularly go camping but there’s a balance between quieter activities as well. Working in our patrols we are starting to get more independence from our leaders but in a safe environment. Scouts is really helping me to improve my confidence and develop important skills for life.
What It’s Like Being an Explorer
Explorers cater for those aged 14 to 18 years old.
As well as having a great time with my friends chilling from the school routine, I’m busy completing my Queen’s Scout and Duke of Edinburgh’s Awards which help set me apart from loads of my mates. This involves expeditions, volunteering, working on my guitar playing and learning how to kayak.
What It’s Like Being a Volunteer
Volunteers are the backbone of everything we do at Scouts.
I’ve just started volunteering as an assistant leader at my local Cub pack. I’ll be honest I didn’t quite know what to expect however I’ve received support and training to help. Along the way I’ve made new friends and learnt new skills. I can’t commit to being there every week but have found it is easy to just do as much as I can.
