A grandparent, parent and young person have made their Scouting Promises together in a special evening celebrating family, achievement and volunteering.
On Thursday 15 October, 1st Kirkby in Ashfield (St Wilfrid’s) Scout Group welcomed Xander, his mum Cath and his grandpa David into the Scouting family, with Xander joining Cubs and Cath and David becoming adult volunteers. Arlo was also invested as a new Cub.
The evening at the group's headquarters on Rectory Lane brought families together to celebrate new beginnings and achievements. Cubs welcomed guests, hosted refreshments and practised their communication skills, while badges were presented to recognise their successes.
A highlight was presenting Christian with his Chief Scout’s Silver Award, before celebrating his move up to Scouts.
For David, volunteering is an opportunity to give something back following retirement.
“After 40 years working in an office, it’s time to give a little bit back. Now that I’m retired, I have the time to do what I enjoy,” he said.
Cath, who began as a parent helper, added: “I started as a parent helper and really loved it. It’s lots of fun and different from my work as a special needs teacher.”
Anna, a Cub Team Volunteer who conducted the investitures, said: “It was a privilege to invest three generations of one family together — a lovely reminder that Scouting has something to offer at every age.”
