Professor Veronica Pickering OBE appointed President of Nottinghamshire Scouts

July 2, 2026

Nottinghamshire Scouts is delighted to announce the appointment of Professor Veronica Pickering OBE, Lord-Lieutenant of Nottinghamshire, as the new President of Nottinghamshire Scouts.

The Lord Lieutenant brings a wealth of experience, dedication to public service, and a longstanding commitment to supporting young people and volunteers across the county. Her appointment marks an exciting new chapter for Nottinghamshire Scouts as the movement continues to grow, reach more communities, and provide life-changing opportunities for thousands of young people.

Since being appointed Lord-Lieutenant of Nottinghamshire two years ago, Professor Veronica Pickering has become a familiar and valued supporter of Nottinghamshire Scouts. She has attended a number of key events across the county, including the 75th Anniversary of the Nottingham Gang Show, the 2025 and 2026 Thank You Garden Parties celebrating volunteers who had received national Scouting awards, our St George’s Day celebrations, and the official opening of the new activity centre building at Hoveringham.

Speaking about her appointment, Professor Pickering said:

“It is a real honour and a privilege to be able to take on the role of County President for Nottinghamshire Scouts. I am really excited to see how we can develop and reach further into our communities and families. I am especially proud that my own family have been involved with scouts for a few years, and I recognise the impact and value the work they do across the whole of the UK, but especially in our own County.”

As President, the Lord Lieutenant will act as an ambassador for Nottinghamshire Scouts, championing the work of its young people and volunteers while helping to strengthen relationships across communities, organisations and partners throughout the county.

County Lead Volunteer for Nottinghamshire Scouts, Jordan Phillips, welcomed the appointment:

“We are absolutely delighted that Professor Veronica Pickering OBE has agreed to become President of Nottinghamshire Scouts. Veronica has already shown tremendous support for Scouting across Nottinghamshire, taking the time to celebrate our young people, recognise our volunteers and champion the positive impact we make in communities across the county.

“Her passion for service, commitment to Nottinghamshire and understanding of the importance of opportunities for young people make her an outstanding advocate for Scouting. We look forward to working closely with her as we continue to grow, welcome more young people and volunteers, and ensure that Scouting remains accessible to every community in Nottinghamshire.”

Nottinghamshire Scouts supports over 10,000 young people and adult volunteers across the county, helping them develop skills for life through adventure, teamwork, leadership and community action. With the Lord Lieutenant joining the movement as President, the county looks forward to building on its successes and reaching even more young people in the years ahead.

Everyone at Nottinghamshire Scouts extends a warm welcome to Professor Veronica Pickering OBE and looks forward to working with her in her new role as President.
