On Saturday 27th June, Nottinghamshire Scouts hosted their annual Thank You Garden Party at the beautiful lakeside setting of our Hoveringham Activity Centre, where volunteers gathered to celebrate dedication and service across the county. The event recognised those who had received Good Service Awards in 2025, with each awardee invited to bring a guest for a relaxed afternoon of appreciation.
Guests were welcomed with lively music from the 5th Carlton Scout Band, setting a warm and celebratory tone as attendees arrived. Around 125 guests were in attendance, including the Lord Lieutenant and County President, Professor Veronica Pickering OBE, Mark Goldby, Deputy Lord-Lieutenant of Nottinghamshire, and Merlita Bryan, the High Sheriff of Nottinghamshire.
County Lead Volunteer Jordan Phillips opened the afternoon with thanks to the award recipients, reflecting on the commitment that underpins Scouting across the county: “You give your time, your skills and your care, not for recognition, but because you believe in the difference Scouts makes to young people’s lives.”
The event ran seamlessly thanks to the support of Explorer Scouts from the Nottinghamshire Jamboree Unit, who assisted throughout the afternoon with professionalism and enthusiasm.
In his closing remarks, Mark Goldby DL praised the impact of Scouting, highlighting its role in equipping young people with skills for life and thanking volunteers for their continued dedication to making opportunities possible.
The Thank You Garden Party remains a special moment in the county calendar, an opportunity to recognise those who go above and beyond to support young people. Make sure to submit your award nominations for the 2026 awards and be part of next year’s celebration.
