6. Youth Shaped Scouting

We remain committed to empowering young people to shape their own scouting experience. We actively engage young people on matters that directly impact their experience, including County Camps, Gang Show, Jamborees and more. We also provide learning opportunities for them to develop their independence as leaders in our movement using the Young Leaders Training Scheme.

National Youth Forum

In March, 6 members from Nottinghamshire represented us at the National Youth Forum in Manchester. They joined 500 others from across the UK to help shape the future of the movement as the next strategy is formed.

The day consisted of workshops and plenary sessions where those attending were able to examine draft plans for the future of the Movement and update and modify those plans in the light of their experiences.

Jamie, 16, from Beauvale District said: “It feels like an honour to come here and represent my County, helping to get young people more involved in what we do. It's quite interesting, really, because you get to hear all the ideas from all the other Scout groups and how they would do it differently.”

A big thank you to Nancy, Jamie, Adriel, Hannah, Victoria and Lizzy for representing Nottinghamshire at this landmark event.

Young Leaders

Our Young Leader Training Scheme remains a cornerstone of leadership development in Nottinghamshire, guiding hundreds of young people through eleven modules designed to build the skills, knowledge, and confidence needed to become outstanding section leaders.

In 2025, the team delivered regular training sessions alongside tailored support for completing the four Young Leader Missions, all of which contribute to earning the prestigious Young Leader Belt. We also partnered with Hampshire Scouts to provide access to their excellent e-learning platform, allowing young leaders to complete training anytime, anywhere.

This year, we were proud to award many Young Leader Belts to exceptional young people who have demonstrated dedication, growth, and commitment throughout their leadership journey. With many more on the verge of achieving this milestone, the future of Scouting leadership in Nottinghamshire has never looked brighter.
